Nursemaid Elbow

Ever heard of it? I learned about it this morning when we took Gwen to the pedi because her right arm wasn’t working. Yeah, I said that! Her right arm wasn’t working. And she was in pain…almost all night.

What is it? It’s a dislocation of the elbow. It’s common in 1-4 year olds, apparently.

How did it happen? My husband was taking off her shirt and she squirmed the wrong way or he tugged the wrong way and bam it was dislocated.

We opted not to take her to the emergency room in the middle of the night. In the morning (this morning) the pediatrician attempted three times to get it back in place. Finally she showed a bit of movement. This afternoon she was still not a 100% so we took her for  X-rays – just in case. All good. She was just slower than typical to recover after the relocation.

It was a stomach in throat kind of day. This parenting thing can be damn stressful.
