The best ‘unknown’ baby product

If my husband and I had to name the single most used baby product we own, it would have to be the pod – or so we call it. It’s like a Bobby but enclosed all the way and its shaped like an egg.

This picture was taken when Gwen. was just a few weeks old. A friend of mine advised that we register for it and then she was the one who bought it for us :). Initially we used it to put Gwen down when we were cooking or folding clothes or needed to get a quick task done. I would even bring it into the bathroom with me when I had to go or shower. She fit so nicely in it all snuggled in between the sides. She fit perfectly.

For the first few weeks of her life we tried to have her sleep in a swing or her pack and play at night. They didn’t work well. Eventually we decided to try her in the pod at night. We placed the pod in the pack and play which was in our bed room and her in the pod. After several days of this, she began to sleep more soundly for several hours at a time. Gwen was a noisy sleeper the first few weeks, but this seemed to help.

At 5 weeks old, we decided to try and move the pod into her crib which is also when we began to swaddle her more regularly. She slept even better and so did we. With her out of our bedroom, we no longer woke up every time she made a noise.

We are now at 13 weeks old and attempting to ween her out of the pod. Her legs now hang over and she’s beginning to have more control of body and head. For the past two weeks she’s napped flat in the crib without the pod during the day only. Yesterday – day one of the night ween didn’t go so well. She woke up every two hrs until i gave in at 2:30 am and decided to put her back in.

I’m a little sad to see the pod go. It was comforting to know she was snuggled and so comfy during her sleeps.
